Dress Code

Veiled women in pews praying together

Proper Attire

Out of reverence for the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and for the edification of our neighbor, all who attend Mass are expected to dress with modesty, dignity, and respect befitting the House of God.

For Ladies

In keeping with the apostolic custom of the Church, women are asked to have their heads covered in church, as taught by St. Paul (1 Cor. 11). This may be done with a hat or a chapel veil. Chapel veils are available in the church vestibule for those who do not have one.

Ladies should wear dresses or skirts of modest length, extending at least to mid-calf, even when stockings or leggings are worn. Dresses should have modest necklines and sleeves, and should not be tight-fitting.

Slacks, trousers, and similar garments are not appropriate attire for ladies in church, as they do not reflect the traditional Christian standards of modesty and feminine dress.

For Gentlemen

Men should dress in a manner that reflects reverence for the sacred liturgy. A coat and tie are most fitting for Mass. At minimum, attire should be neat, modest, and respectful. Men should remove headwear in the church.

Casual clothing such as jeans, t-shirts, shorts, athletic wear, or similar attire is not appropriate for church.
